Rocking Chair with the Devil's Eyes
This work is a self-portrait of me trying to adapt to the new environment in the United States after arriving from China. The wooden rocking chair on the bottom represents me as a playful and energetic person. The soft monster-like creature that grows across my body is like the stress that makes me feel as if I can’t breathe and move anymore.
However, the creature is made of lightweight and soft materials such as muslin and cotton. These materials are not representative of the physical weight that has been placed on me from the new environment, but rather the intangible pressures I have mentally.
